Puvab

Puvab affisch-kub-kropp-1Puvab is a Swedish company, founded in 1989 in Borås in Southern Sweden. Right from the start, Puvab has focused on marketing protective wear for the Swedish energy and railway companies. The importance of the right clothes inside and out have been one of the corner stones in the business. This is why Puvab has always worked hard to develop functional and certified garments of the highest quality that work both at the height of summer and in freezing winter. Today, we probably have the broadest range of certified workwear in this area.

In 2013, Puvab started the brand Eripio Wear with workwear for ambulance and rescue services. The garments are developed to provide innovative design and functionality. We are very please that several local municipalities in Sweden, Denmark and Finland have so far chosen Eripio Wear as their main supplier.

Puvab – a brief history

  • 1989 – Puvab was founded by Ulf Hansson and Kjell Gustavsson.
  • 1991 – Cooperation with Vattenfall is started, and a whole new range is developed for their special needs in workwear. A lot of this work has laid the foundation for Puvab’s continued development.
  • 1995 – Puvab launches a new, ergonomic range at the Nordic Elfack trade fair for the electricity and power business, which was a big success in the electricity business.
  • 1998 – Ulf Hansson becomes the sole owner of Puvab.
  • 2003 – Puvab starts its factory in Kaliningrad, Russia, where most of the production will come from.
  • 2011 – Gustav Örn aquires Puvab and becomes the main owner.
  • 2013 – Per Wagnås starts as new MD. The brand Eripio Wear is founded. Puvab starts a cooperation with GORE-TEX® and launches its first collection of functional GORE-TEX® garments tested for protection against the thermal hazards of an electric arc.
  • 2014 – Strategic cooperation with MASCOT A/S which enables Puvab to offer a full range of workwear and shoes even when there is no demand for flame protection.
  • 2017 – Cooperation with MASCOT A/S terminated.
  • 2017 – Puvab is acquired by Hultafors Group AB (http://www.hultaforsgroup.com/).

Product Development

Mejlselfickan utevcklad i sammarbete med användarnaRegular workwear is not functional for irregular or unusual work task. This is why we never stop developing our garments.

We are always open to our users’ views, suggestions and input. A good example is the story of the screwdriver pocket.
We often get visits from suppliers who think that we should start buying their products. However, before we decide to change fabrics or other materials in the garments, we always ask a test group to evaluate the products in different conditions.

There is no material suitable for all weather types or work situations. So it’s important that there are different choices and combinations, both for garments and materials, such as the option of NOMEX in most of our models.

The curious story of the screwdriver pocket.

Our first trousers with heat and flame protection for line fitters in the electricity business had a regular pocket for a folding rule, as that was standard in the business. After several pairs had been sent back with a hole in the pocket we were puzzled. How could a folding rule make holes in a pocket?

When we spoke to the line fitters, it turned out that they used the folding rule pocket as a screwdriver pocket. The solution for us was to enforce the pocket with Kevlar, and since then there are no more holes in the pockets. And we learn always to talk to our users. They are the only ones who know how the workwear is used in real life.

Our Philosophy

Puvab - så har vi tänktFunction
By specializing on the energy business, we ensure that every detail is relevant to the users of our workwear. The garments are fitted with a number of practical and clever features that makes the work easier. Certain of these features are unique to Puvab.

Economy
A Skoda is cheaper to buy, but a Volvo is cheaper per mile. For protective wear, the life span is also essential to the total cost. Well designed, high quality protective wear with a long life span will be a good investment over time.

Ergonomics
We put a lot of effort into ergonomic development. Well designed garments are used more, and this will also increase the protection. Working in garments that feel good also makes the work more effective.

Product development
Our production is based on the principles of Darwin, by which we mean that every round of production is developed compared to the previous. Through our relatively short series, we can allow ourselves to adjust and change as soon as we find a detail that can be improved.

Design
Functional, comfortable and safe garments are the result of thorough design work. Our foundation is a long tradition, know-how and cooperation with the users. We also design ranges for companies with special requirements.

Testing
We are leaders in the development of protective wear for the energy and power business. Puvab was the first company to start doing tests for protection against the thermal hazards of an electric arc when developing flame proof protective wear. Needless to say, our garments meet the current norms and certifications as a minimum.

Materials
High demands are made on the quality of the fabric for protective wear. We adjust the blend of materials depending on the area of use and sometimes even down to an individual level. Through our close cooperation with the fabricators, we constantly develop the materials to live up to the demands and needs that arise.

Kvalitet
We never compromise on quality. Our aim is to constantly ensure that our products have the maximum durability, and to achieve this, we only use Europe’s leading fabric suppliers. By doubling the life span we can also halve the environmental impact.

Sewing
No matter how good the materials are, the garments will not last if the sewing is not done properly. A good measurement on how well the sewing has been done is the number of bartacks. A bartack is a welding technique which reinforces the garments in areas that are particularly hard wearing. We are known for our love of bartacks – the more the better!

New Light-Weight Collection

PRESS RELEASE

Puvab launches a revolutional, light-weight series of protective wear

certified against the thermal hazards of an electric arc.

11 MAY 2017

Puvab, Sweden’s leading supplier of protective wear certified against the thermal hazards of an electric arc for the energy and railway business is strengthening its position on the market with the launch of a brand new series of protective wear.

Puvab AB has been a part of Hultafors Group since March 2017 and is now a brand under Snickers Workwear. Puvab is now launching a new light-weight series which is unprecedented on the market, practically reducing the weight by half, compared to similar garments on the market.

The product series is called GORE-TEX® PYRAD® Technology and is made from a material which is certified for the protection against the thermal hazards of an electric arc, and also against heat and flame, electrostatic properties, chemicals and for light welding work. The protection against the thermal hazards of an electric arc is measured in calories per cm2, and Puvab’s new product series has a protection as high as 51 cal/cm2.

The garments are also wind and water proof, and can be compared to advanced alpine products, where pockets and functions have been adapted for the energy business.

The new garments can be worn all year if they are combined with the right clothes inside and out, in line with Puvab’s system for layering. This principle is based on adjusting and keeping the body heat through layering insulating undergarments. The outer shell is made with GORE-TEX® PYRAD® Technology.

W.L Gore has developed the material, and in cooperation with Puvab, the functionality and design of the garments have been developed to ensure that they meet the high demands for certification of this type of protective wear. In addition to all the certifications, the user also benefits from the other advantages of the GORE-TEX® PYRAD® technology in these garments.

”This will change the entire work situation for working in cold, windy or rainy environments where protection against the thermal hazards of an electric arc is also needed. There are now considerably better conditions for working on wind mills in the mountains or in rough weather,” says Per Wagnås, MD of Puvab AB.

The new garments will be presented for the first time at the trade fair Elfack in Gothenburg, Sweden, on          9th – 12th of May 2017.
”The customers who have had a preview of the garments have been very excited,” Per concludes.

You will find Puvab at the stand B02:44 where the new collection will be presented.

Environment

Arbetskläder som håller länge är bra för miljönWe strive to take the environment into account in everything we do to ensure the lowest impact possible on the environment.

As part of our ISO work we have set tough goals and continuously measure our improvements. One of the most efficient ways is to always deliver products with a long life span. A product with a life span of 1 year repeats its environmental impact in all instances during a 3-year period, while the environmental impact only happens once if the products lasts for 3 years.

This makes it not only cheaper for you as a customer, but the total cost for the environment is also much less. This is why we have chosen to work only with the highest quality and most sustainable suppliers of fabrics and accessories.

Puvab is certified according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
